Marvel’s most anticipated film of the year did not disappoint. Deadpool & Wolverine united two of the most popular characters of the comic franchise in a move that brought millennial fans to tears.

Last we saw him, Logan (Hugh Jackman) had died heroically to save his daughter, Laura (Dafne Keen). Finally finding redemption after decades of questions, the Wolverine could be laid to rest. News that Ryan Reynolds would be resurrecting the icon with Jackman in the driver’s seat naturally made fans a little weary. How could anyone top the fantastic finale that was Logan?

Reynolds solved that problem by making this Logan a time-variant — but not without an elaborate dance sequence involving our Logan’s bones. That was only the first of many surprises in the film which involved harkening back to some of the earliest characters in the Marvel timeline. It was a testament to fans’ love of the comic book universe, even if the book was being closed on an era. Whether Jackman will return to Wolverine in the future remains to be seen. However, fans can revisit the third Deadpool movie over and over again sooner rather than later.

When can fans watch Deadpool & Wolverine on Disney Plus?

After a phenomenal showing of Deadpool & Wolverine in theaters this summer, the franchise has proven that cinema is not dead. The outrageous fanfare was exactly what makes it fun to go to the movies. Fans can revisit this experience currently, by renting or buying the film on demand. But let’s not forget the sadly dying art of physical media. On October 22, the film will be available on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD. Currently, this is the only information that we have.

But for those intent on streaming it with their Disney subscription, the time will come eventually. It typically takes a few months for films to hit Disney Plus after a theatrical release, meaning Deadpool & Wolverine should hit the streaming waves sometime after October. Viewers should stay tuned for further information.

‘There are some conversations’: ‘The Marvels’ star who ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ cruelly snubbed teases the X-Men return of the century https://wegotthiscovered.com/marvel/there-are-some-conversations-the-marvels-star-who-deadpool-wolverine-cruelly-snubbed-teases-the-x-men-return-of-the-century/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/marvel/there-are-some-conversations-the-marvels-star-who-deadpool-wolverine-cruelly-snubbed-teases-the-x-men-return-of-the-century/#respond Fri, 13 Sep 2024 18:14:09 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1753267 "Oh my stars and garters!"]]>

To the frustration of comics fans everywhere, the MCU has continued its soft launch of the X-Men. While the studio has had the rights to finally implement the best Marvel team for some time, there has been no official word yet.

As it stands now, fans have had to subsist on scraps. The biggest progress in that department has been the animated series, X-Men ’97 on Disney Plus. A continuation of X-Men: The Animated Series from the ’90s, the series has had monumental success. New episodes have taken the old model of the original series, and developed socially conscious storylines. If this is the benchmark for what X-Men content can be expected in the future, viewers are more than ready to take that on.

However, live action has been less than forthcoming with its X-Men characters. Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness brought back many familiar faces from another dimension just to kill them off. The Marvels came even closer when it brought back one fan-favorite character — though still in an alternate dimension. Kelsey Grammer’s portrayal of Beast makes a surprising and appreciated appearance in a post-credits sequence of the film. Though with only a few lines of dialogue, it was a sign that perhaps there is more to come in the MCU’s future.

Is Beast returning to the MCU?

Since the film’s release in 2023, there has been no word about bringing the X-Men to the forefront. 2024’s hit Deadpool & Wolverine was the closest to making this dream a reality, but it was still only a wink at the audience. Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) enlists the help of a Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) variant from another reality to help save his world from dying. They travel into the Void to see all of the Marvel hits like Pyro (Aaron Stanford) and Elektra (Jennifer Garner). Deadpool & Wolverine was yet another slam dunk in the eyes of fans, so what is the hold-up in bringing the X-Men back?

Even a sliver of hope would be enough to keep us going. Perhaps Grammer is here to help. In a conversation with comicbook.com, the Frasier actor played future iterations of Beast close to the chest.

“There’s nothing I can talk about. What I do know is that there was a huge sort of outburst when I showed up at the end of The Marvels, I guess it was. The response was really almost… it wasn’t unexpected. There’d be some response, but it was pretty overwhelming, and so there are some conversations.”

Realistically, that is probably as much as Marvel would allow him to say. But it is more than fans have had for the past year. Perhaps this is a sign that things are about to change in the future. It may also be exactly what Marvel needs to get out of its plateau. It hasn’t been a secret that the excitement surrounding the brand has waned.

With the exception of WandaVision and Loki, the oversaturation of Marvel television has diminished the brand. The obvious solution is to fully incorporate the X-Men. The reaction to appearances of these characters in Deadpool and other films is, as Grammer states, overwhelming. The only logical way to continue the MCU is to give the fans what they have been waiting for.

The third time around, Ryan Reynolds’ trademark character has inspired more fanfare than ever before. And there’s no guessing as to why.

Finally, after Marvel’s domination on the big screen, the Merc With the Mouth has entered the MCU. Deadpool (Reynolds) has had his taste of the limelight since his first solo venture in 2016, but Disney’s merger with Fox has invited him to the big leagues. In Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds has done the impossible by convincing Hugh Jackman to return as the ball of fury with claws as they head out to save the universe from destruction. The film has been a return to form for Marvel which has candidly been plateauing since 2019’s Endgame. But this time around, fans have returned to the theater in droves, including one particular sect of viewers with all one thing in common.

A Deadpool screening was overwhelmed with Ryans

In a display that would make Reynolds himself proud, an entire screening was filled out with an audience exclusively named Ryan. Under the TikTok handle, Ryan Meetup, the event was chronicled for all of the internet to witness. Each Ryan in attendance was gifted a Deadpool shirt and they were treated to Ryan-specific advertisements. One Ryan even brought some Aviation gin. Together, they enjoyed one of the best MCU films in recent memory, along with a special guest.

Ryan Meetup acknowledged that they would be remiss if they did not invite a Hugh, since Reynolds invited the famous Jackman to appear alongside him. In this tongue-in-cheek manner, they welcomed a Hugh whose last name was Ryan. All in all, the viewing seemed to be a success. If nothing else, it brought joy to the social media platform for a time.

“Now this is boys will be boys,” commenter Lee posted to a typical response from Ryan Meetup: “Ryans being Ryans.”

Ryan Meetup was so so committed to the bit that they fully endorse changing one’s name to Ryan just so more people can contribute to these events. One bystander in the video allegedly changed her name while they pushed this agenda further in the comments.

“I wanna be called Ryan. not fair,” bob posted. Ryan Meetup was quick to respond: “You can change your name, we have the paperwork.”

This is not the first example of Ryans meeting up, either. Ryan Meetup has done a collection of similar events, which can be found at https://ryanmeetup.com/events. The group has previously put together events including Rytoberfest, St. Ryan’s Day, and Ryami Vice, all with the purpose of meeting more people named Ryan. Per Deadline, Deadpool & Wolverine recently crossed the $900 million mark at the box office, and while there is no confirmation that Ryan Meetup helped, it certainly couldn’t have hurt.

Is Blake Lively Lady Deadpool in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine?’ https://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/is-blake-lively-lady-deadpool-in-deadpool-wolverine/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/is-blake-lively-lady-deadpool-in-deadpool-wolverine/#respond Mon, 29 Jul 2024 08:19:46 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1725005 Who is the woman behind the mask?]]>

In the weeks before the Deadpool & Wolverine premiere speculation ran wild about which cameos would be in the movie. These ranged from the involvement of King Charles, a surprise appearance from Taylor Swift, to a potential connection to the Avengers.

It was only natural for fans to theorize about one of the year’s most anticipated films, but one theory that garnered a lot of attention was Blake Lively playing Lady Deadpool

So do we know for sure whether it’ll be Lively who dons the Lady Deadpool suit?

Is Blake Lively Lady Deadpool in Deadpool 3?

While she never takes off her mask, Blake Lively is listed in the film’s credits as Lady Deadpool and confirmed her appearance in a sweet Instagram post, celebrating Lady Deadpool and the film’s existence. When Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld first created Lady Deadpool in 2009, he actually based the character after Lively herself. In a recent Instagram post, he shared that he and his wife never missed an episode of Gossip Girl and were “Team Serena all the way” so making the character in Lively’s image was a given. It’s truly a full circle moment for everyone involved.

Lively’s involvement shouldn’t come as too much of a shock due to her being married to Mr. Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds. Given how many celebrities make a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, it probably would be more shocking if she didn’t make an appearance.

In addition to Lively, all four of her and Reynolds’ kids are credited. Nine-year-old James plays a “Screaming Mutant”, seven-year-old Inez plays Kidpool, four-year-old Betty is a “Hugh Jackman wrangler” and one-year-old Olin is Babypool.

It initially wasn’t confirmed whether Lively would appear in Deadpool & Wolverine as Lady Deadpool, but that didn’t stop people from fan-casting her. After a faceless woman donning a Deadpool suit appeared in a trailer and TV spot, it was widely speculated that Lively, the real-life wife of Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds, would be taking on the role.

Though it started as speculation, the blonde-haired woman in the trailer certainly resembled Lively (at least from the face down). Throw in the fact that Reynolds and Lively’s offscreen connection plays into Deadpool’s affinity meta moments and you had a pretty convincing argument that the Gossip Girl star would make a cameo. Turns out, most people were right on the money with their guess.

However, fans also theorized that it might be Taylor Swift in the Lady Deadpool suit, so perhaps we shouldn’t give too much weight to fans’ dream castings. Swift sadly doesn’t star in the film (a missed opportunity, we must confess) but she only had great things to say about the film.

In any case, we congratulate those who guessed correctly that Lively was the woman behind the mask before Deadpool & Wolverine arrived in theaters.

Between ‘Deadpool 3’ and ‘The Boys,’ should superhero movies be rated R moving forward? https://wegotthiscovered.com/marvel/between-deadpool-3-and-the-boys-should-superhero-movies-be-rated-r-moving-forward/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/marvel/between-deadpool-3-and-the-boys-should-superhero-movies-be-rated-r-moving-forward/#respond Fri, 26 Jul 2024 14:52:06 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1729958 Listening to Wolverine and Deadpool casually trade F-bombs is the stuff dreams are made of. ]]>

July has been a pretty good month for superhero PR, and it’s been a pretty gory month overall. Just one week after The Boys blessed us with a bloody nightmare of a finale, Deadpool & Wolverine kept the momentum going. Come to think of it, both Wade and Logan would be terrifyingly awesome members of the Prime Video hit, and Deadpool 3 shows that Disney needs to let the family-friendly formula go!

After watching Deadpool & Wolverine, there’s something that makes this the MCU’s potential saving grace. When it was announced that the movie would be Rated R, I knew I had to catch it on opening day. After all, with all of his brash, knuckle-slicing, throat-cutting arrogance, Wolverine wasn’t blurting out curse words until 2017’s Logan, and I needed to see him in his element again. And that, to me, has always been why the mutants had never truly lived up to their potential.

Who knew it would take Disney to finally give superheroes some balls of steel? With all the universe-threatening villains and earth-shattering heroes that have graced the MCU in the past decade, we’re just now witnessing history?

Why The Boys will always be one of the best superhero shows ever

Homelander The Boys

The Boys has always focused on the terrifying potential of superheroes. According to the series, humans are flawed, but superheroes should more often than not be feared. God forbid, you catch a supe on a bad day, there’s no telling what could happen. They’re a million times faster and stronger than we are, so it’s always best to steer clear. Hopefully, with the impending success of Deadpool & Wolverine, the MCU amps up the blood and gore, and allows more superheroes and mutants to let out an F-bomb or two!

Should the MCU continue making R-Rated superhero movies?

Deadpool & Wolverine

Marvel’s Cinematic Universe has been pretty vanilla for the most part. Sure, there’ve been tense and sad moments, and we’ll always scream and cheer for THAT scene in Endgame. But if we’re keeping it real, what the MCU needs to spice things up, is to not give a… hoot? Logan and Wade are a reckless delight in this buddy-superhero hit, and it’s because neither of them give a flying… fudge? (You get the gist.)

They’re swearing at one another, ripping people apart with ease, and delivering merciless kills that could give the Final Destination franchise a run for its money. Beyond the two lead characters though, the supporting characters (and the mindblowing cameos) also have their fair share of curse words… which begs the question: why are superheroes often tamely portrayed in the media? Let’s face it, The Boys really knows how to sell the idea that heroes and humans are not the same, and we’ll never be. So it’s about time we move forward, and leave the past few MCU phases behind. The people want bloodthirsty action, and hopefully, some more R-Rated superhero movies are on the horizon.

Is Deadpool really Marvel Jesus? Although it sounds like a typical OTT boast from Wade Wilson, the nickname the Merc with the Mouth gives himself in Deadpool & Wolverine may actually be entirely accurate. Not only is the character himself returning to the big screen after six years away, he’s bringing another icon back from the dead with him… And resurrecting a defunct franchise at the same time.

Yes, even more so than usual with the MCU, Deadpool 3 requires a fair amount of homework to fully appreciate, serving as it does as a love letter to Fox’s X-Men universe — which lasted a nice round 20 years before Disney hoovered the rights back. To really comprehend he cinematic weight of what it means to have Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman now playing in the Marvel Studios sandbox, these are the films you need to watch before catching DP and Wolvie’s grand comeback in theaters.

1. X-Men (2000)

Image via 20th Century Fox

Although we’re not a fan of the costumes, Bryan Signer’s original X-Men film still plays well thanks to an economical script that deftly sets up the world and its conflicts, but also doesn’t scrimp on the mutant-clashing action. Hugh Jackman — despite being too tall and fit for the role going on 20 years now — introduces audiences to Logan with the right mix of berserk energy and dry wit. Anna Paquin matches him aptly as a mutant who even other mutants fear, making her journey to find acceptance the emotional backbone of the film. But the movie really belongs to Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen as Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto, respectively. We could watch them give speeches and try to outmaneuver each other all day.

2. X2 (2002)

x-men
Image via 20th Century Fox

Singer’s X-Men sequel is another success at presenting a believable version of our real world, except with people who can teleport through walls. The action is a step up here, as the aforementioned mutant power (belonging to Alan Cumming’s wonderfully realized Nightcrawler) lends itself to a stunning opening sequence where a single mutant penetrates the Oval Office. Logan steps into more of a leadership role here, and the film serves nicely as a continuation of his story. Famka Janssen’s Jean Grey is also a standout, playing a woman afraid of her own powerful impulses while trying to steward a younger generation of mutants. The will-they-won’t-they relationship between Wolverine and Jean Grey is sort of a lynchpin for Logan’s emotional journey beyond this film, and the ending packs an emotional wallop.

3. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

x men origins wolverine

Yes, this is a pretty bad movie. But it’s the first time Reynolds’ Deadpool (or at least a bizarro version of him) comes up against Jackman’s Wolverine, and it’s the foundation of half the jokes in the Deadpool franchise. X-Men Origins, as the title suggests, tells the story of Wolverine’s origin, which X2 shed more light on as well. But this entry dares to ask the question: What if we supply more information than anyone cares to know, plus make his claws look extra fake? This movie is essentially a down payment on several great jokes later on.

4. X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in 'X-Men Days of Future Past'

Several years after the original X-Men trilogy, Singer returned to the franchise to direct a sequel to his original films as well as the reboot X-Men: First Class. How? Time travel. For some reason, Kitty Pride’s ability to phase through walls has evolved into an ability to phase people through time. She and some future mutants send Wolverine back to the 1970s to stop Mystique from starting the world down a path that eventually leads to mutant extinction. Wolverine doesn’t get many good action scenes here, but Jackman is better than ever when called upon to lead a younger, bitter Professor X (James McAvoy) back to the mindset of his former (and future) self. The student becomes the teacher, basically, in one of the coolest, most epic movies in Logan’s canon.

3. Deadpool (2016)

Deadpool

Surprising everyone who laughed Ryan Reynolds’ first attempt at the character off the screen, Deadpool works in every conceivable way. The jokes land, the action impresses, there’s plenty of real pathos, and the movie is as foul-mouthed as its marketing campaign promised. Several jokes in here still make us blush (“Happy International Women’s Day, baby”). This is what the fourth-wall-breaking character should look like, move like, and talk like — which retroactively makes us appreciate X-Men Origins as a strange cultural artifact that was hilariously off the mark in every way.

2. Logan (2017)

logan
Image via 20th Century Fox

Logan is a film with a capital “F.” James Mangold’s closer to the Wolverine trilogy — including X-Men Origins and his own first sequel, The Wolverine — takes place in the future, but not the same one as Days of Future Past. This one is just as bleak, but the film takes inspiration from old Westerns, ensuring the sun-baked soil and free-running horses get just as much attention as the fistfights. It’s somewhere between The Dark Knight and a Cormac McCarthy novel, so don’t turn it on hoping to smile. The movie is surely one of the best superhero films ever made, but it can be a tough watch for how unrelentingly bleak it is. Why are we recommending it? Because we — and Jackman himself — were convinced this was the end of Logan’s journey for years. Until he made the surprise decision to suit up for Deadpool 3.

1. Deadpool 2 (2018)

deadpool 2
Image via 20th Century Fox

Deadpool 2 is the most recent film in the storyline, so it should be the one you watch immediately before the threequel. It also lampoons the ending of Logan, so you should definitely watch that one and have a good cry before Reynolds turns it all into a farce. But again, it works. Deadpool 2 is arguably even funnier than the first film. It once again boasts some great action, along with a beating heart underneath all the filthy jokes. And the ending is an absolute riot, opening the narrative up to the limitless, multiversal canvas that Deadpool & Wolverine operates on (even if some of the sheer quality may have got lost in translation).

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ ending explained: How does Wade Wilson change the MCU? https://wegotthiscovered.com/marvel/deadpool-3-ending-explained-how-does-wade-wilson-change-the-mcu/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/marvel/deadpool-3-ending-explained-how-does-wade-wilson-change-the-mcu/#respond Thu, 25 Jul 2024 13:46:19 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1728142 Are the mutants finally coming to the Sacred Timeline?]]>

Warning: The following article contains major spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.

Deadpool & Wolverine promised to bridge the gap between the previous Fox X-Men franchise and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the movie is surprisingly self-contained. But that doesn’t mean its ending brings some interesting concepts into the MCU.

At the heart of Deadpool & Wolverine lies a premise that’s both clever and meta: Wade Wilson’s (Ryan Reynolds) timeline – representing the former Fox X-Men universe – is in danger of collapse. The film introduces the concept that the death of an “anchor” character sets off a slow decay of their entire timeline. In Wade’s timeline, the anchor character is no one other than Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, who died in Logan. It’s a brilliant nod to Disney’s acquisition of Fox and the subsequent end of that particular X-Men era.

While Wade’s timeline disappearance echoes real-world deals between major Hollywood companies, the exploration of the multiverse passes through the MCU’s Time Variance Authority (TVA). After the events of Loki Season 2, the TVA is now dedicated to preserving timelines rather than pruning them. However, a rogue TVA agent named Mr. Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen) still believes in the supremacy of the Sacred Timeline and constructs a machine to accelerate the destruction of Wade’s world. As Paradox puts it, turning on his “Time Ripper” is fast mercy, while letting a timeline slowly vanish over two thousand years is unwanted.

Since Wade doesn’t want his loved ones to die, he comes up with a nonsensical solution: finding a new Wolverine from a different timeline and bringing him to Earth-10005. Wade eventually partners with a version of Logan who’s far from heroic. This “worst Wolverine” comes from a world where mutants are universally hated due to his actions, and all the X-Men died due to his lack of commitment. Together, they must rise to the occasion, learn what it means to be a hero and save the entire multiverse.

What happens at the ending of Deadpool & Wolverine?

In the climax of Deadpool & Wolverine, Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) threatens to destroy the entire multiverse by taking over Paradox’s Time Ripper and juicing it with her Omega-level psychic powers. Since she was pruned by the TVA when she was still a baby, she has built an empire in the Void, where she intends to spend the rest of her life. However, when Paradox betrays her, Cassandra decides she can’t trust the TVA to keep their word and leave her alone. So, she intends to destroy every timeline, so the Void is the only thing that might exist.

Wade and Logan must work together to short-circuit the Time Ripper. The duo become conduits for matter and antimatter, embracing their role as saviors. Logan wants redemption, while Wade is ready to sacrifice himself to save his loved ones. Their combined will can overload the machine long enough for it to explode, killing Cassandra in the process.

Paradox tries to use the chaos that ensues to blame everything on Cassandra. However, both Deadpool and Wolverine survive their heroic act. Their willpower and healing factors allow them to endure what would have destroyed either of them alone, allowing them to escape death. As such, the TVA directress B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) learns the truth, arresting Paradox and praising the heroes for their efforts. She also informs Wade and the new Wolverine they have become anchor characters due to their actions, ultimately saving the Earth-10005 timeline. Finally, B-15 promises Wade she’ll see what she can do about Fox’s discarded characters.

In the final moments of Deadpool & Wolverine, Wade has invited the new Wolverine to stay in Earth-10005. We see all of Wade’s friends enjoying a warm gathering in his flat. Dafne Keen’s X-23 is also there, meaning B-15 has kept her promise.

The film’s resolution opens up exciting possibilities for the future of the MCU. By establishing Wade’s timeline as a haven for discontinued characters, Deadpool & Wolverine creates a sandbox where Fox’s Marvel characters can continue to exist and evolve. At the same time, the door is left open for these characters to cross over into the main MCU timeline when needed. The presence of TVA director B-15 further cements the connection between Deadpool’s world and the larger multiverse established in projects like Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

In short, Deadpool & Wolverine’s ending is a masterclass in having your cake and eating it, too. It provides a satisfying conclusion to the immediate story while leaving plenty of room for future integration with the broader MCU. Now, all that’s left is learning how the mutants will join the Avengers in the Sacred Timeline.

Warning: The following article contains major spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.

Deadpool & Wolverine is about to break R-rated box office records, as Marvel fans run into theaters to witness the Merc with a Mouth (Ryan Reynolds) MCU debut. Of course, everyone expects Deadpool 3 to have a clever post-credits scene.

It will come as no surprise that Deadpool & Wolverine has, indeed, a post-credits scene. However, instead of ushering in a new era of future MCU projects, the post-credit scene follows the tradition of the two previous Deadpool movies by landing a final joke and making a hilarious meta-commentary on the superhero industry.

In Deadpool & Wolverine, Wade Wilson discovers that Wolverine’s (Hugh Jackman) death in Logan threatens his timeline’s existence. This revelation sets him on a collision course with the Time Variance Authority (TVA) as he searches for a replacement Wolverine from an alternate reality. The journey leads Wade and a new Wolverine to the Void, a desolate realm at the end of time ruled by the formidable Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin). There, they encounter an unexpected ally: the Human Torch, portrayed by Chris Evans in a clever nod to his pre-Captain America superhero role.

During their captivity in Cassandra’s base, Wade seemingly betrays Johnny Storm by attributing a series of offensive remarks to him. The scene makes the audience believe that Wade is testing Cassandra’s limits by cursing her in highly creative ways but putting the blame on the Human Torch just to be safe. This leads to a shocking display of Cassandra’s powers, resulting in Johnny’s apparent demise.

This leads to a shocking display of Cassandra's powers, resulting in Johnny's apparent demise. Deadpool & Wolverine post-credits scene nods at the Fox era of superhero movies As the credits finish rolling, we're treated to a scene that's quintessentially Deadpool. Our antihero stands alone at the TVA, breaking the fourth wall to address the audience directly. His mission? To clear his name and prove he wasn't responsible for Johnny's gruesome fate. Deadpool uses TVA technology to present evidence of his journey to Cassandra's base, when he has shared a cell with Johnny Storm and the new Logan. In a hilarious twist, it's revealed that Johnny did indeed utter all the offensive remarks Wade had attributed to him – and then some. The scene is a comedic goldmine, playing on the stark contrast between Chris Evans' portrayal of the wholesome Captain America and this foul-mouthed version of the Human Torch. Deadpool & Wolverine stays true to its roots by delivering a punchline rather than a preview of future projects. It prioritizes humor and character development over universe-building, a refreshing approach in the interconnected world of superhero cinema. All cameos in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ explained https://wegotthiscovered.com/marvel/all-cameos-in-deadpool-wolverine-explained/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/marvel/all-cameos-in-deadpool-wolverine-explained/#respond Thu, 25 Jul 2024 13:41:33 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1729277 This is the real Multiverse of madness!]]>

Warning: The following article contains major spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.

The art of the cameo has long been a staple of superhero films. However, Deadpool & Wolverine seems poised to take this tradition to new heights, leveraging its unique position as a bridge between Fox’s late X-Men universe and the sprawling MCU.

The movie revolves around Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) and Logan (Hugh Jackman) journeying through the Multiverse. This concept leaves many doors open for surprising cameos and unexpected characters to return. Of course, the parade of cameos can only make sense if you know the previous Fox superhero projects and even behind-the-scenes trivia.

So, let’s break down all the cameos in the third Deadpool movie, because we know you’re anticipating them highly.

Chris Evans as Human Torch

Chris Evans, known for his iconic portrayal of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first brought Johnny Storm/Human Torch to life in the 2005 film Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. His charismatic performance as the cocky and impulsive Johnny Storm was widely praised, often considered the highlight of these films. In Deadpool & Wolverine, Evans makes a surprising return as the Human Torch, meeting a gruesome fate at the hands of Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin). This cameo serves as a meta-commentary on Evans’ superhero journey, bringing his pre-MCU character full circle and starkly contrasting his portrayal of the more strait-laced Steve Rogers.

Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15

Wunmi Mosaku first appeared as Hunter B-15 in the Disney+ series Loki. Her character evolved from a dedicated TVA agent to questioning the organization’s true nature. In Deadpool & Wolverine, Mosaku reprises her role, now elevated to the position of TVA director. This promotion highlights B-15’s growth and importance within the MCU. As the TVA director, B-15 can walk across different timelines, making her a key player for the entire Multiversal Saga.

Tyler Mane as Sabretooth

Tyler Mane first portrayed Victor Creed/Sabretooth in the original X-Men film in 2000. Mane brought a physically imposing presence to the feral mutant. In Deadpool & Wolverine, Mane reprises his role as Sabretooth, engaging in a highly anticipated duel with Wolverine. Despite the build-up, the confrontation ends hilariously anticlimactic, with Sabretooth losing his head. This cameo plays with audience expectations, subverting the typical superhero showdown trope.

Aaron Stanford as Pyro

Aaron Stanford first portrayed John Allerdyce/Pyro in X2: X-Men United (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). His portrayal of the fire-manipulating Mutant was notable for its complexity, showing Pyro’s journey from Xavier’s student to Magneto’s acolyte. In Deadpool & Wolverine, Stanford returns as Pyro, now one of Cassandra Nova’s main allies in the Void. However, his loyalties are divided as he works with Paradox behind Cassandra’s back. This duplicitous role adds an extra layer of intrigue to the Void storyline.

Blake Lively as Lady Deadpool

Blake Lively, known for her roles in Gossip Girl and A Simple Favor, makes her superhero debut as Lady Deadpool in Deadpool & Wolverine. While initial speculation pointed to Taylor Swift for the role, it was confirmed that Lively, Ryan Reynolds’ real-life wife, would don the red and black suit. In the movie, Lively leads an army of multiversal Deadpools, including quirky variants like Cowboy Deadpool, Baby Deadpool, and even a floating skeleton head Deadpool.

Henry Cavill as Variant Wolverine

Henry Cavill, best known for his portrayal of Superman in the DC Extended Universe and Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher, makes a surprising appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine as an alternate universe version of Wolverine. Presented as the manliest Wolverine, Cavill’s cameo is a meta nod to superhero casting. Wade Wilson even invites him to join the MCU, promising better treatment than “other people” (a playful jab at DC).

Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan

Jon Favreau, who has played Happy Hogan in the MCU since 2008’s Iron Man (2008), has a vital part to play in Deadpool & Wolverine. The film reveals that at the end of Deadpool 2, when Wade was traveling through timelines, he visited Happy Hogan for an interview to join the Avengers in the Sacred Timeline. Unfortunately for Wade, he doesn’t get the job, which leads him to abandon the Deadpool uniform until the events of Deadpool 3. Happy’s cameo provides a humorous connection to the broader MCU and offers a glimpse into Wade’s attempts to join the Avengers, further emphasizing his outsider status within the superhero community.

Wesley Snipes as Blade

Wesley Snipes first brought Marvel’s vampire hunter to life in the 1998 film Blade, kickstarting a trilogy that would pave the way for the modern superhero movie boom. Snipes’ portrayal of the Daywalker was praised for its intensity and physicality, combining martial arts prowess with a brooding charisma. The Blade trilogy was a significant success for Marvel characters on the big screen before the advent of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, proving that superheroes could make big bucks in Hollywood. Snipes’ return as Blade is worth homage to his contribution to the industry.

Dafne Keen as X-23

Dafne Keen made a powerful debut as Laura Kinney, also known as X-23, in the critically acclaimed Logan (2017). As the genetically engineered daughter of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Keen’s performance was praised for its emotional depth, especially considering her young age at the time of filming. Her portrayal of X-23 showcased a perfect blend of feral rage and vulnerability, effectively carrying on the legacy of the Wolverine character. Keen’s appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine opens up intriguing possibilities for her future in the MCU, even more so as she finds a haven in Wade’s original timeline.

Channing Tatum as Gambit

Channing Tatum’s appearance as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine is a meta nod to one of the most famous unproduced superhero films of recent years. Tatum was attached to star as the charismatic Cajun mutant Remy LeBeau, aka Gambit, in a solo film for years, with the project going through multiple directors and rewrites before ultimately being canceled after Disney acquired Fox. His cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, where he expresses confusion about ending up in the Void given that his timeline “never even existed,” is a playful acknowledgment of this Hollywood development hell story.

Jennifer Garner as Elektra

Jennifer Garner’s return as Elektra is a surprising callback to the early 2000s era of Marvel films. Garner first portrayed the assassin Elektra Natchios in the 2003 Daredevil film alongside Ben Affleck, later headlining her own solo Elektra movie in 2005. While these films received mixed reviews, Garner’s character portrayal was often praised. Her appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine as part of the team of Variants known as The Others in the Void serves as a nostalgic nod to this earlier period of Marvel adaptations, potentially giving the character a chance at redemption in the eyes of fans.

Other Fox X-Men Characters

Deadpool & Wolverine features many cameos from various Mutant characters from Fox’s pre-Disney era, serving as a loving tribute to nearly two decades of X-Men films. These include appearances by Jason Flemyng as Azazel, Ray Park as Toad, Kelly Hu as Lady Deathstrike, and Vinnie Jones as Juggernaut, among others. Each of these cameos provides a nostalgic touchpoint for long-time fans of the X-Men film franchise while also showcasing the vast potential of the Multiverse concept in bringing together different eras and iterations of beloved characters.

‘I absolutely foresee more’: A ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ vet is certain of their Marvel future, but it’s not Ryan Reynolds or Hugh Jackman https://wegotthiscovered.com/marvel/i-absolutely-foresee-more-a-deadpool-wolverine-vet-is-certain-of-their-marvel-future-but-its-not-ryan-reynolds-or-hugh-jackman/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/marvel/i-absolutely-foresee-more-a-deadpool-wolverine-vet-is-certain-of-their-marvel-future-but-its-not-ryan-reynolds-or-hugh-jackman/#respond Wed, 24 Jul 2024 17:44:44 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1728977 'Deadpool 3' is not the end.]]>

The MCU has been waiting for a true hero to come along and there is no one better than the antihero Deadpool. After years of lackluster content, fans are excited to see the Merc with a Mouth hit the big screen in his Disney debut.

Ryan Reynolds’ depiction of the wise-cracking antihero has always been a hit for the brand. If there is anything that will revitalize Marvel, it is his team-up with X-Men royalty, Wolverine. Uniting with Hugh Jackman for the first time since the maligned X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the two will finally do Deadpool and Logan as they were meant to be seen.

Making sure not to tarnish the impeccable Logan film, Deadpool & Wolverine will utilize a Wolverine from a different timeline to help Deadpool save his world from dying. The film will incorporate the TVA from Disney Plus’ Loki as well as an exciting cast of cameos from the Fox universe of X-Men and the wider MCU. This has all come together under the direction of one industry professional, who is excited to see this train keep on churning.

Which Deadpool & Wolverine vet wants to keep working with Marvel?

When looking for the director to helm the newest Deadpool film, Shawn Levy may not have been the most obvious choice. He has been most notable for projects geared toward a younger audience, most famously Netflix’s flagship series, Stranger Things. Even so, he was the right choice for the third film in the mature superhero franchise. After collaborating with Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project, Levy was quick to agree to direct Deadpool & Wolverine. He told The Hollywood Reporter that he was a fan of the character and Marvel even before meeting Reynolds. This was a match made in blood-soaked heaven. Now the film is one of the most anticipated projects of the year, and Levy hopes to continue the relationship.

What I will say is I absolutely foresee more collaborations between Marvel and me. The when and the what is yet to be seen. And contrary to so many assumptions out there, and even within myself before I had this experience, I’ve been arguably more creatively empowered and trusted on this movie than just about any other I’ve ever made.

Levy is a dark horse for the season, but that is exactly what Marvel needs. Since Avengers: Endgame, the studio has been struggling to find its next big thing. The only projects that have worked out are shows that have operated outside the box, such as WandaVision and Loki. It seems that what the studio really needed was fresh blood to infuse into the superhero world. Levy is that blood, and considering how well previews for Deadpool 3 are going, he has a bright future ahead of him.

Will Stray Kids be in ‘Deadpool 3’? https://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/will-stray-kids-be-in-deadpool-3/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/will-stray-kids-be-in-deadpool-3/#respond Fri, 05 Jul 2024 19:24:26 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1719478 We will happily pay to see Wade Wilson singing "God's menu."]]>

The Marvel fans are finally back on the hype train, as the most highly anticipated collaboration of the century is about to drop: Deadpool & Wolverine. Now that we’re only a few weeks away from the anti-hero mashup on the silver screen, rumor has it that a certain K-pop boy band called Stray Kids — you might have heard of them once or twice — might be in the movie.

Of course, at this point, anything regarding the film that hasn’t yet been shown through a trailer is merely speculative. Some fans, however, wholeheartedly believe that this might be the K-Pop debut on the silver screen that we didn’t know we wanted but definitely needed. The theories aren’t far-fetched, either — on the contrary. The group has taken the reins as K-Pop’s Fourth Generation leaders, and at this point, they’re undeniably one of the industry’s most successful acts, so, could they have been invited to Deadpool 3?

Are Stray Kids going to be in Deadpool & Wolverine?

There is not yet any confirmation as to whether Stray Kids will be making a cameo in Deadpool 3. However, if they do, some fans saw it coming from miles away. During the press tour for the film, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have shown multiple times that they’re eager not only to meet Stray Kids, but they’ve also been suspiciously near them as of late.

Self-proclaimed STAY Ryan Reynolds has been seen time and time again praising Stray Kids, and the press tour in South Kora gave him a chance to link up with the Aussie leader of Stray Kids, Bang Chan. According to OSEN, Reynolds, Jackman, and Stray Kids not only got the chance to meet for the very first time, but the Korean media has also reported that they managed to film some mysterious content.

This sudden connection also aligns with Stray Kids’ new album release, which is set for July 19 — a week before Deadpool 3 hits theaters. Perhaps Stray Kids might be doing what they do best, and have a place in the Deadpool soundtrack. The theory has layers, and we’re starting to believe them.

Why is the return of Sabretooth in ‘Deadpool 3’ so important? https://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/why-is-the-return-of-sabretooth-in-deadpool-3-so-important/ https://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/why-is-the-return-of-sabretooth-in-deadpool-3-so-important/#respond Fri, 28 Jun 2024 18:37:59 +0000 https://wegotthiscovered.com/?p=1716420 "Good luck, I'm a huge fan."]]>

Deadpool & Wolverine promises to be an embarrassment of riches in the cameo department. The third installment of the Deadpool franchise brings back many of the MCU’s favorite characters.

So close to the film’s premiere, a new teaser reveals that one of Wolverine’s (Hugh Jackman) oldest rivals has returned to play. Sabretooth, born Victor Creed, first appeared in live-action in the 2000 X-Men film, which cast many iconic characters for the first time. The new teaser features an epic portent of a showdown, though subverted in classic Deadpool fashion: as Wolverine goes to face down his foe, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) calls for a time-out.

“You look ridiculous!” Deadpool stage whispers as he pulls multiple blades that are still stuck in Wolverine’s body. “People have waited decades for this fight. It’s not gonna be easy.”

Wade echoes what we’re all feeling. We’re huge fans, and can’t wait for this encounter. Though he had about 2 lines of dialogue in the original film, Sabretooth represented a long-running rivalry from the comics. Tyler Mane is reprising his role in Deadpool 3 after more than two decades since his first appearance. This is bad news for Liev Schreiber, who took on the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But bringing back Mane is a move based on nostalgia, for fans who may or may not know Sabretooth’s compelling backstory.

Who is Sabretooth?

As with many comic stories, Sabretooth’s origins have many moving parts. His rivalry with Wolverine could stem from many places, but the most prominent reason for the dislike was Sabretooth’s involvement in the murder of Silver Fox. After killing Wolverine’s lover, the two set down a path of violence for a long time. They later team up for the Weapon X program, which results in similar catastrophic events. Initially, comic writer Chris Claremont had toyed with the idea that Sabretooth was Wolverine’s father. This plot point would explain why Sabretooth is a constant antagonistic force in Logan’s life, trying to get him to become more animalistic.

This idea was later abandoned, and in the comics, Sabretooth and Wolverine are not related. This differs in movie canon, where Sabretooth was upgraded to Wolverine’s half-brother. X-Men Origins: Wolverine generally sticks to the mutant’s original backstory. Logan was born James Howlett to Elizabeth and John Howlett. One night, when he was a child, he witnesses the truth of his parentage. Though raised as John’s son, he is actually the son of the groundskeeper, Thomas Logan. Logan kills Howlett one night in a fit of rage, and upon seeing this, young Wolverine’s latent mutant abilities surface. Also present was Victor, who in the film, is Thomas Logan’s son. In the comics, Logan did have another son, but he was not Sabretooth.

It is unclear what version Deadpool & Wolverine will be going with. Since Mane is playing Sabretooth, it may be safe to assume that the original intention of the character will remain intact. But no matter what timeline the film will be going with, the most important thing is seeing two characters with a long history clash claws once more.
